The Brief

Following a major rebrand, PoGo Charge emerged with a bold new identity – vivid red tones, clean geometric patterns and a forward-looking attitude that perfectly represented their ambition to become one of the UK’s most recognisable EV charging networks.

But while the refreshed brand looked powerful on paper, the next step was the hardest part: turning visual design into real-world infrastructure. The challenge wasn’t just about colour or signage, it was about ensuring that every physical site, from a small retail location to a multi-bay charging hub, could carry that same sense of energy and quality while staying functional, safe and cost-effective.

PoGo’s internal team recognised that the EV sector comes with its own unique complexities, from site compliance and accessibility requirements to branding within shared retail spaces, where multiple visual identities fight for attention. The brand had to stand out without clashing, and installations had to deliver operational efficiency without inflating costs.

  • Another key consideration was scalability. As a growing charge point operator, PoGo needed to make sure their first sites would set a visual and structural precedent for everything that followed. Without a standardised product mix and build methodology, the network risked inconsistency from one site to the next, with varying finishes, bay sizes, and even brand colours that could weaken recognition.

The rebrand had generated excitement and momentum, but PoGo knew that without the right delivery partner, that creative spark might not translate into a sustainable rollout. They needed a partner who could bridge the gap between brand vision and build reality, aligning design, engineering, and long-term value into one unified process.

That’s where Formula Space came in. With a proven track record in EV charging infrastructure design, site branding and above-ground delivery, Formula Space was brought on to develop a turnkey methodology that could take PoGo’s new brand language from concept to construction ensuring the first sites not only looked beautiful but set the benchmark for every site that followed.

The Challenge

PoGo’s rebrand was bold, ambitious and full of character, but transforming a design language into real-world EV charging environments is rarely straightforward. Each element of a site, from the charger wrap to the bay paint, must perform technically while staying true to brand. Getting that right at scale is where the real challenge lies.

  • Brand Consistency Across Every Site

EV charging networks grow quickly, often involving multiple contractors and site types including retail parks, roadside hubs, city centres.

Without clear control, brand details can shift subtly with every build: colours drift, signage varies, proportions change. Over time, those small inconsistencies dilute recognition and trust.

Maintaining absolute brand uniformity across a national rollout of physical infrastructure meant creating a system flexible enough to adapt to each site but rigid enough to stay unmistakably PoGo.

  • Accessibility and Compliance

Designing charging spaces isn’t just visual, it’s governed by strict, but necessary, standards like PAS 1899, ChargeSafe, and local authority planning.

For a new brand, this can clash with creative ambitions. What looks great on a brand board might not meet gradient, bay width or visibility requirements once laid out on tarmac.

PoGo’s goal was to deliver high-impact sites that everyone could use confidently, but that required careful interpretation of regulations and a detailed understanding of real-world charging behaviour.

  • Visual Impact Without Compromise

PoGo’s colour palette with bold reds and deep purples was designed for digital impact, not UV exposure and road salt.

In outdoor environments, those pigments face fading, glare and surface wear that can change the brand’s appearance in months.

Balancing that vibrancy with practical performance meant finding materials, finishes and layouts that could handle weather, sunlight, and constant vehicle movement while still delivering the visual energy of the brand.

  • De-Risking Future Rollout

Every charging operator faces the same hurdle: scalability.

Without a repeatable specification and controlled supply chain, each new site becomes a fresh design exercise with new contractors, new materials, you get new risks.

PoGo needed a standardised, replicable site design that could roll out fast without sacrificing quality or inflating cost. Achieving that balance between creativity and constructability would define the success of the rebrand.

From concept to concrete - Turning a bold brand into a buildable reality

The Work

Bringing PoGo’s new brand to life meant more than matching colours and shapes. It required a structured process, one that combined creative thinking with technical precision. From early brand immersion and 3D modelling to live trial builds and on-site delivery, every stage was about proving that great design can perform in the real world. Through close collaboration, detailed testing and an obsession with finish quality, we turned visual identity into physical infrastructure by creating a scalable model that PoGo can now deploy confidently across its network.

  • Step

    Brand deep-dive and strategy alignment

Before design began, we ran a full brand and strategy deep-dive with the PoGo team.

We mapped their long-term goals and user experience priorities, detailing how they wanted customers to feel when using a PoGo charger and how that could be expressed through colour, layout, and space planning.

From this, we built a brand-to-space framework, translating their design system into a cohesive product mix including:

    • Bay Marking
    • Signage & Wayfinding
    • Crash Protection
    • Lighting & CCTV
    • Canopies & Accessibility Features
  • Step

Translating the brand into physical products

The new PoGo identity centred around vivid red tones and bold geometric patterns. We brought this into the real world through a tailored selection of Formula Space products and finishes:

    • Bright bay markings

Engineered for durability and visibility, using high-contrast layouts to reinforce parking discipline and accessibility.

    • Charger Wrapping

that perfectly matched brand colours and dot gradients — tested for longevity and UV resistance.

    • Custom crash protection and bollards

Designed to protect chargers without visual clutter & maximise value over site lifetime.

    • Branded signage and wayfinding

Guiding drivers seamlessly from approach roads to the charger itself.

  • Step

The trial site at Formula Space HQ

To make sure everything was right before rollout, we built a full trial site at Formula Space headquarters, we delivered a complete mock-up of PoGo’s proposed bay layout, marking scheme and charger wrap designs in real life.

By physically testing everything in advance, we eliminated risk and ensured that the first live site rollout was seamless. This two-stage design and build process is now a blueprint used for other PoGo locations.

The example site became a collaborative test environment where Formula Space and PoGo refined:

    • Colour consistency under real lighting
    • Product performance (anti-slip coatings, reflective line marking, etc.)
    • Charger wrap fitment and panel detailing
    • Alternative lighting and canopy configurations
  • Step

    From Prototype to Real-World Delivery

With the trial site approved, PoGo’s brand moved from prototype to reality. Formula Space delivered the first flagship locations, managing every above-ground detail from bay marking and signage to canopies and crash protection. Each site matched the tested design precisely, built to perform and scale. Guided by our Create → Deliver → Sustain methodology, every space launched on time, on brand and ready for the future.

    • Precision execution

Every on-site detail followed the tested prototype, ensuring consistent brand delivery across all locations.

    • Single-source coordination

Formula Space supplied and managed all above-ground components, removing risk and simplifying logistics.

    • Future-ready design

Standardised foundations, bay layouts and materials made ongoing maintenance and upgrades seamless.

    • Flagship success

The first PoGo sites set a clear benchmark for the brand, now forming the reference model for all future rollout phases.
