Award level innovation
Developed specifically for the EV charging sector and recognised across the industry as a dedicated answer to cable theft, CableGuard® combines proven forensic technology with a bespoke site-ready design.
EV cable theft protection, engineered for charging networks
CableGuard® is a patented EV cable protection system combining cut resistant materials with forensic traceability & anti-theft technology to help CPOs protect their most valuable asset: their chargers. Developed by EV charging site specialists, CableGuard® is already securing cables across the UK and Europe and is built to adapt as theft tactics change.

Developed specifically for the EV charging sector and recognised across the industry as a dedicated answer to cable theft, CableGuard® combines proven forensic technology with a bespoke site-ready design.
CableGuard® brings together cut resistance, forensic marking and optional tracking and alarms in one modular system that can be tailored to different sites, regions and theft profiles.
Designed for new builds and retrofit programmes, CableGuard® installs without removing the cable, is compatible with major cable management systems and is approved for use on Kempower hardware without affecting charger warranty.
As networks scale, cable theft has become a recognised operational risk. Theft incidents now affect sites of every size and location, creating avoidable downtime, additional maintenance burden and growing pressure on customer experience.

EV charger cable theft has moved from isolated incidents to a recognised operational risk. High value copper, visible locations and repeatable attack methods mean some sites are targeted again and again, especially where several high power chargers sit together. National media coverage of cable theft has started to damage driver confidence in public charging and every incident means downtime, replacement costs and lost trust for operators. CableGuard® was created by Formula Space in direct response.
Instead of adapting a generic security product, we designed a system that fits the realities of public EV charging: high utilisation, tight maintenance windows and strict expectations around user experience.
Recognised at the 2025 EV Infrastruture & Energy (EVie) Awards for innovation and industry impact in protecting EV charging infrastructure winning the coveted 'Best New Product' Award.
CableGuard® is redefining cable security across the EV charging landscape by combining physical defence, forensic traceability and zero-impact installation into one seamless solution.
Prize Winning Protection
Proven Deterrent
Designed for Deployment

Every detail designed to deter and delay
CableGuard® combines a high tech outer sleeve with an internal forensic liquid system. The result is a visible deterrent that significantly increases the time and effort needed to cut a cable and, if tampered with, marks suspects, tools and vehicles with a unique forensic signature that links them back to the site.
A reinforced patented sleeve, incorporating advanced materials developed exclusively for this application, is engineered to withstand heavy daily use on busy public sites & significnatly increase time taken to cut. Independent and internal testing has demonstrated that CableGuard® meaningfully delays cutting attempts, even when different tools, site conditions and cable types are taken into account.
CableGuard® adds negligible weight and keeps a familiar look and feel for drivers. Testing has confirmed that the sleeve does not negatively affect cable flexibility, thermals or harmonics and is abrasion tested to withstand tens of thousands of cycles of ground contact seen on the busiest of sites.
Supplied as a complete kit, CableGuard® installs on existing cables without removing them from the charger. It is compatible with major cable diameters, lengths and cable management systems, making network wide rollouts practical and repeatable.
Inside the sleeve, a high pressure forensic liquid system activates only when attacked. The liquid carries a unique identifier that glows under UV light and is recorded on a shared database used by police and security partners, creating a direct link between suspect, site and stolen cable. Forensic marking has already helped secure over 1,000 convictions across the UK, giving operators confidence that the traceability built into CableGuard® is backed by real world law enforcement outcomes.
One platform, multiple protection options
CableGuard® is designed as a modular system so operators can match protection levels to the risk profile of each site. Urban hubs, trunk road chargers and remote locations face different challenges, so configurations can be adjusted while keeping installation and user experience consistent across the network.
The core CableGuard® configuration is built around high performance cut resistance, delivering a robust first layer of defence without compromising the day to day usability of the cable.
The reinforced sleeve has been tested across multiple tools, cable types and site conditions, with consistently positive results that show a clear increase in the time and effort required to breach a protected cable.
This performance is balanced with careful engineering to maintain the handling, flexibility and charging experience drivers expect on busy public sites; offering strong protection for typical risk environments while keeping installation simple and maintenance straightforward for operators.

For operators who want an added investigative layer, CableGuard® can be supplied with forensic liquid tracing. When tampered with, the system marks suspects, tools and vehicles with a unique forensic identifier that supports evidence gathering and long term deterrence. This capability is widely used in UK security strategies and has contributed to over 1,000 convictions.
In regions experiencing more forceful attacks or repeat incidents, CableGuard® can be specified with additional reinforcement within the sleeve. These configurations are engineered to increase cutting difficulty under heavier tool use while maintaining cable flexibility and a smooth driver experience. Testing shows consistently stronger resistance in these upgraded versions.
For higher risk or internationally affected sites, CableGuard® offers further internal deterrence technology. These enhancements are designed to disrupt attack attempts, increase uncertainty for thieves and support better operator response. Details are shared privately with customers to maintain security through obscurity.
International coverage
Cable theft is not limited to one country. Operators report incidents across the UK, mainland Europe and beyond, with some regions experiencing particularly high levels of organised activity.

CableGuard® is already moving into international rollout with operators across the UK and Europe, supported by strong on site performance and positive field results. Installations delivered through 2025 have shown that the system transfers seamlessly between different charger models, climates and regional risk profiles, giving operators a consistent protection strategy as they scale networks across borders.
In the UK, forensic marking brands are well understood by police and insurers. Here, the forensic liquid capability is a major part of the value, giving operators a strong deterrent and evidence trail while keeping cables easy to handle.
Markets such as Australia are beginning to experience their first cable theft incidents. CableGuard® allows operators in these regions to build protection in early on larger hub sites so that security scales alongside infrastructure rollout.
In markets like Spain, Italy, Portugal and parts of Eastern Europe, theft levels are described as critical, with operators looking for higher cut resistance as well as deterrence. CableGuard® specifications can be adjusted to prioritise different combinations of physical defence and forensic features for these regions.
From repeated theft to stable uptime
At a busy charging site, repeated cable thefts created significant disruption, with six cables taken in early March and the remaining ten stolen just two weeks later.
To keep the site operational, the operator brought in manned night security while theft deterrent solutions were explo. CableGuard® was fitted across all chargers in July, allowing the security presence to be removed. Since installation, the site has experienced no further theft incidents and has remained fully operational.

CableGuard® is deliberately designed so that many of its most effective features are hard to understand from a photograph or a web page. Publicly documenting every technical detail of the system would make it easier for organised thieves to adapt their methods, which is the opposite of what our customers need.
Instead, we share the full story in controlled settings with operators, OEMs and security partners. That includes detailed testing data, product construction information and practical guidance on how to build CableGuard® into your wider security strategy.
Formula Space offers free on-site testing sessions so your team can evaluate CableGuard® directly on your own hardware. Our specialists will visit your headquarters with install-ready CableGuard® samples, allowing you to test compatibility, handling, flexibility, thermal performance, torsion resistance and cable management fitment.
You will also be able to perform supervised cut testing using our provided demonstration cables. These sessions give operators a clear, practical understanding of how CableGuard® performs in real-world conditions before planning wider deployment.
CableGuard® has been developed and refined with input from leading charge point operators and hardware manufacturers who understand the cost of downtime.
